Seeing It Through

One of the best things about my new job as a Nurse Case Manager is having the ability to be more involved in different aspects of my patients’ lives and stories. This week I had the privilege of attending a funeral for a patient, which is not something that a nurse usually gets to do. Someone asked me why I would attend a funeral, implying that this is not usually part of “normal” nursing tasks. It really isn’t to be fair. My response was and still is “because I’m seeing it through.” My staff and myself were there for every other step of the recent processes (my staff more than me, I’ve been there a whole 7 months) so it only makes sense to attend and it is the ultimate way to honor and remember a beautiful soul who lived a beautiful life. Many times healthcare workers are tasked with treating whatever the immediate problem is at hand and don’t get to know how the story ends. What an honor!
